WMR SERVICE BULLETIN 02

WMR has important information regarding the 2004
Kawasaki & Suzuki KX250F & RMZ250F.
Through extensive testing and development with these new bikes, we would
like to bring a few items to your attention that have caused us concern.
We have determined that the stock valves are made of two pieces fused
together. In other words the valve head is fused to the stem during
manufacturing. This is not a recommended method for any race motor, and we
can only surmise that it was done as a budgetary measure. Here at WMR
we have seen numerous motors destroyed due to valve heads braking off.
When the head comes off it bounces around in the cylinder damaging the
other valves, head, valve seats, guides, and piston. On many occasions it
even bends the crank shaft. It goes without saying that this causes a
very expensive repair.
The factories are issuing a bulletin to dealers and customers recommending
a valve replacement after every 15 hours of riding. We can understand the
manufacturer recommending top end replacement on a two stroke that often,
because it is relatively inexpensive to replace a piston and ring , but
replacing stock valves, springs, retainers and keepers can run several
hundred dollars not to mention the labor to do the work, as well as other
items that should be replaced while the motor is opened up. It is not
uncommon to have a repair bill of $1,800.00 or more.
THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS, WHAT
TO REPLACE THE DAMAGED VALVES AND SPRINGS WITH?
Should
you put back in the stock valves only to have them break again in as
little as 15 hours? At WMR we can not in good conscience recommend
doing that, so we decided to come up with a permanent solution and add
performance at the same time.
WMR has developed custom ONE PIECE TITANIUM valves with Titanium
retainers and keepers along with custom rate Duel Springs. The result is a
stronger system that will hold up under the demands of Motocross
competition. We also recommend the installation of a WMR High
Compression Piston and rings along with WMR Head Porting to top off
the modification.
We are
also testing bronze valve seats that provide better seal and wear. All
these items are currently being track and Dyno tested and they should be
ready for release very soon. Price is still being determined on these
modifications and we will be offering a few different kits to meet
everyone's budget. We know the components will cost more than the stock
units however with increased life and superior performance, they will be
well worth it.

of these mods in Texas and Vegas and everything was working great, we just
need a little more time to fine tune everything.
